Founded in 1863
Prior to 1863 our family's connection to the funeral industry was through carpentry. Our founder E.D. Selby was originally a carpenter specializing in creating cabinets, furniture and occasionally coffins. As the Reisterstown community grew, so did the responsibilities of the undertaker. Mr. Selby would soon be too busy to continue as a carpenter. With the Civil War and the dawn of the Battle of Gettysburg, the community found the need for someone to help with the transportation and disposition of its fallen soldiers. This was the beginning of the professional funeral director.
Six generations and over 160 years later, Eline Funeral Home is still serving our local community. We are humbled to be one of the oldest family owned and operated funeral homes in the United States. We still run our business on the same founding principles that our founder E.D. Selby instilled: Serving our local families and community with the utmost compassion, dignity and professionalism.
For many years, our family worked alongside the Tipton family as Tipton-Eline Funeral Home in Hampstead. In 1963, as Mr. Tipton retired we moved into our new facility in Hampstead. Our third location in Finksburg, opened in 2015. To assure true convenience for the families we serve, all of our locations are fully handicap accessible. Our services have expanded in recent years to include an on premise crematory, a full service florist, catering and reception rooms at all three of our locations, in addition to a full service monument company.
