Meet the First Artists of Studios at 234

Cohort 1

Alessandra Giampaolo Keener

Alessandra is a self-taught artist who works primarily with watercolor and textiles. She began her professional art career in her 20s, selling her handcrafted fiber art at Baltimore's iconic Women's Industrial Exchange. Three decades later, she now raises thousands of dollars every year painting whimsical pet portraits for a local animal shelter. Alessandra approaches her creative process as a therapeutic journey responding to life's ups and downs. Her art reflects the simplicity of looking at life through a lens that strips away details and focuses on the essential elements that bring joy into one's life. During her time at The Studios at 234, you will find Alessandra integrating her loose watercolor style of animal portraits with found objects and mixed media. Alessandra lives in Reisterstown with her husbutch and an ever changing array of foster cats.

Rachel Patterson

Rachel is a public school art teacher and an alumna of the Maryland Institute College of Art. She grew up in Reisterstown and is deeply connected to the community, making her participation in Studios at 234 especially meaningful. Rachel’s work explores form and process through graphite pencil, linocut, and oil paint, while also incorporating mixed media approaches. Her practice focuses on themes of home and memory, emphasizing comfort and stillness. Guided by a responsive process, Rachel draws inspiration from the spaces she moves through and the conversations she encounters, often finding meaning in the smallest moments. She is excited to create, experiment, and continue building creative connections within the community she calls home.

Hillary Posner

Rebel. Artist. Synesthete. Hillary is an abstract artist from Reisterstown Maryland. She uses all different styles and techniques to create bold, detailed projects including: sewing, painting, drawing, textiles, glass, metal, found objects and up-cycling.  She creates projects that communicate what it’s like to navigate through life as a synesthete. She can feel sound, hear colors, and all her emotions become tangible physical patterns to her. She has developed a style strategy of art that makes the world make a little more sense to her. Creating in a mindful way has become her meditation and passion to create a calm beautiful way to navigate challenges by seeing the world from a creative perspective by focusing on the details and patterns around her. She also likes to help others find their own creative voices to learn creative ways to navigate challenges through art expression.
