Speaker Emerita Adrienne A. Jones represents District 10 in the Maryland House of Delegates, serving communities in Baltimore County. First appointed to the House in 1997, she made history in 2019 as the first woman and first African American to serve as Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates. During her tenure, she played a key role in advancing major statewide initiatives including education reform through the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, police accountability legislation, and economic equity initiatives. She continues to serve as a Delegate and remains an influential leader in Maryland government.

Founded in 1997

Adrienne A. Jones began her career in public service working in Baltimore County government, where she spent many years in leadership roles focused on community affairs, fair practices, and minority outreach. In 1997, she was appointed to the Maryland House of Delegates to represent District 10 in Baltimore County. Over the years, she became known for her steady leadership and dedication to public service, rising through the ranks of the House to become Speaker Pro Tem in 2003. In 2019, she made history as the first woman and first African American to serve as Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates. Today, she continues to represent District 10 as a Delegate, bringing decades of experience and a strong commitment to serving Maryland communities.
