Description
What is a Sustainable Community? A Sustainable Community is a place- based designation awarded to local governments by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development through its Sustainable Communities Program. The program offers a comprehensive package of resources that support holistic strategies for community development, revitalization and sustainability. The designation opens eligibility for state programs and resources such as Community Legacy and the Strategic Demolition Fund.

What is the Purpose of Renewal? The State requires local governments to renew Sustainable Communities designations every five years. The renewal application provides an opportunity for local governments to involve the community in developing a 5 year "Sustainable Community Action Plan" for their area, to outline new strategies or set new priorities. The Baltimore County Department of Planning is leading the renewal process with the support of a workgroup.
